Hokusai Says

Read more Mindfulness is the topic of "Hokusai Says," a poem by Hokusai scholar Roger Keyes. Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) was a Japanese artist who produced more than 30,000 paintings, prints, and sketches. The woodblock print pictured in this video, "The Great Wave off Kanagawa," is his most iconic image. It is one of a series of prints called "Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji," which brought Hokusai worldwide fame. Keyes is a professor of East Asian Studies who wrote "Hokusai Says" in 1990 as a way to transform into poetry what he discerned in the artist's images. I recently discovered Keyes reading his poem in a YouTube video. I added music from GingerTom, a bit of animation, and captions. These are words to live by.
